Dani Carvajal 'bite' reports quashed

Mario Mandzukic has quashed reports that he was bitten by Real Madrid full-back Dani Carvajal during the Champions League derby match on Tuesday night.

Pictures showing an altercation between the Madrid full-back and Atleti striker emerged after the match and some reports suggested the pictures showed the Spain international biting the Croatian.

Mandzukic has, however, denied those claims through his Twitter account, saying: "Yesterday’s game was tough with both teams giving their all, but for me there was no controversy, no bite, nothing".

The competition's governing body UEFA also confirmed today that there would be no punishment for the player after it failed to make the referee's match report.

Mandzukic and Carvajal were involved in an altercation in a feisty match at the Calderon, with the Madrid man appearing to throw a punch at the Atleti forward, but that was not spotted by the officials.

The Atleti man was also lucky not to see red himself after getting involved in incidents with Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, as well as Carvajal.
