La Liga strike averted - game on!

There will be La Liga! After fears that a planned strike could scupper the final weeks of Spain's top flight, the High Court announced today its decision to suspend the strike and allow the final two matches of the season to be played. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Spanish Footballers' Union (AFE) had called a strike from this weekend in protest to sections of the new Royal Decree regarding audiovisual rights, as drawn out by the Government and the LFP. The LFP had taken the matter to court and, after a delay yesterday, the Spanish High Court today agreed to suspended the strike, ruling in favour of the LFP. The ruling can be appealed but the AFE had already agreed to lift the strike if the High Court ruled against them. The RFEF's call for a strike remained in place but they also announced the strike would be lifted in a statement today at 1pm. The RFEF statement read: "Taking into account the order made by the High Court on this day, the Spanish Football Federation proceedes to lift the measure agreed on May 6, 2015, providing that the competitions are played according to the schedule and times originally planned." The decision means all La Liga matches will be played at 7pm on Sunday (CET) as planned, with Madrid visiting Espanyol and Barcelona able to clinch the title with victory at Atletico Madrid.
