Real Madrid want to keep Iker Casillas for next season

Real Madrid have told goalkeeper Iker Casillas they want to keep him at the club next season, according to reports. The Madrid captain's future had looked uncertain given performances this season that have split the Madrid fanbase and the impending arrival of David De Gea from Manchester United. Casillas has reiterated his desire to see out his contract, which runs until 2016, in the Spanish capital whether he was first choice or playing second fiddle to De Gea and now reports suggest the club has agreed to let him see out his final two years. Both AS and Cadena SER have reported that Casillas held a meeting with Madrid general manager José Angel Sánchez after a training session at the Bernabeu on Tuesday and he was told that the club want him to continue. That will not impact on the decision to sign De Gea, however, and Casillas could well find himself limited to Copa del Rey outings and the odd La Liga match if the United man does arrive this summer.
