Manchester United are reported to have asked for Sergio Ramos as a bargaining tool to allow Real Madrid sign David de Gea.

The Guardian today reports Ramos is on the radar of United, who are looking to bolster their defensive options, and they enquired about the Spain international during a meeting to discuss the asking price of the goalkeeper.

The move may seem ambitious from the Premier League club, especially with De Gea allowed to leave for nothing next summer, but Ramos’s future in the Spanish capital is up in the air with a new contract not yet forthcoming.

Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Majo claimed he had been offered the defender as part of his campaign to take the Camp Nou helm but those close to Ramos rejected the claims.

However, Ramos has grown frustrated with a lack of a new deal, especially considering he was the hero of ‘La Decima’, heading in the added-time goal to level things against Atletico Madrid in Lisbon.

Ramos’s contract is up in 2017 and it is rare for Madrid to allow players to enter the final two years of their deal without a new contract unless they are willing to let them leave.

De Gea’s move back to Madrid seemed only a matter of time but United’s latest offer is set to string things out even further.
