Casillas' parents: "I wouldn't have minded if he joined Barcelona"

The parents of Iker Casillas have vented their anger at Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for the way he treated their son. Casillas' departure from Madrid to Porto was confirmed last night and his parents, Maria del Carmen Fernandez Gonzalez and Jose Luis, wasted no time in lashing out at Perez in an interview with El Mundo on Sunday. “Florentino has some very ugly details in the closet," said Maria Carmen. "He has been very unkind to him and luckily my son has been very strong. It is Florentino who is at fault because my son wanted to retire at Madrid." Casillas still had tow years left on his contract with Madrid and repeated his desire to continue at the Santiago Bernabeu numerous times. His parents were surprised at his decision to move to Porto, a move they believe was pushed by Perez, and their thoughts on the treatment of their son are so strong that his mother said she would not have minded had he gone to Madrid's bitter rivals Barcelona. “It is a team the Segunda B for a person at the level of Iker," she said. "A world champion cannot finish his career at Porto. He could have finished where he wanted to and he would not have minded if it had been at Barça because they are gentlemen."
