Gonzalo Higuain has been struggling for fitness because of his back injury, it has now been confirmed that the striker will undergo an operation to fix his persistent back problems. Jose Mourinho had earlier said that the player needed to undergo an operation to fix his back injury problems. The club played a waiting game on their marquee man, it is now feared that the striker will now miss the remainder of the 2010-2011 season.
Higuain’s back injury is not a new one; he has been struggling with it for quite some time now. The Madrid doctors consulted several spinal column pathologies last year in the first week of December. After much consultation it has now been decided that there is no other go but to operate the player. It was earlier decided by the club doctors that a new clinical examination on the player would be conducted and the results of the examination now suggest that the only way out for the player is to get operated. The player has experienced persistent pain in the past, he has his herniated disc moved and the decision of operation has been accepted by the player and his family. The medical centre where this important operation will take place will be decided in the next 48 hours. The extent of the injury lay-off is not known yet and it is feared that the striker will miss the remainder of the season.
