Post Match: Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao

The pressure was on Real Madrid because Barcelona had comprehensively won their game against Malaga. The home team responded in style by winning 4-1.

The away team took the lead in as early as the 13th minute, Fernando Llorente's left footed shot beat Casillas. The striker was assisted by Javi Martínez.

Going down in the early stages of the game did not ruffle the home team, parity was restored in the 25th minute when Marcelo scored for Real Madrid. It was a left footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner which beat the Bibbao keeper, Marcelo was assisted by Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid took the lead in the 47th minute when Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot. Kaka was fouled in the box by Ander Iturraspe and the referee pointed straight to the spot, Ronaldo stepped up to take the penalty and slotted it home.

The home team went 3-1 up in the 67th minute when Ronaldo once again scored from the penalty spot. This time Mesut Özil was fouled in the box by Óscar De Marcos, Óscar De Marcos was also given his marching orders by the referee for the foul. Ronaldo stepped up for the second time in the match and scored his second goal.

It became 4-1 in the 85th minute when Jose Callejon scored. It was a right footed shot from a difficult angle on the right to the bottom left corner, the player was assisted by Gonzalo Higuaín.

It was a fine home win and the lead has been once again extended to 5 points.
