Benzema and Higuain both started the game up front for Real Madrid. Ozil, whose form has not been impressive was also handed a start.
The home team started the game very well, the pitch was watered minutes before the game so as to enable the players to move the ball around quickly and score a goal in the early minutes of the game.
Madrid created chance after chance in the opening few minutes of the game but failed to score an early goal. Xabi Alonso and Benzema were on the same wave length, the former found the latter with amazing long balls several times in the opening-half of the game.

Minutes after scoring the opening goal, Madrid let Granada equalize. Parity was restored in the 22nd minute when Marcelo was beaten and a cross was delivered in the box, Mikel Rico was left unmarked in the box due to some very slack defending and Rico made the most of this perfect opportunity. It was an inch perfect headed which left Casillas stranded and it became 1-1.
The only yellow card of the opening-half was shown to Roberto, the keeper of Granada. The referee showed the card to the keeper for time wasting.
Madrid took the lead once again in the 34th minute when Ozil's corner was headed in brilliantly by Sergio Ramos, it was a great header which went past the keeper with complete ease.

Madrid looked a rejuvenated side in the opening minutes of the second-half.
Higuain got on the score sheet in the 47th minute, Marcelo made amends for his earlier error by going past a couple of Granada defenders before squaring the ball into the path of Higuain, the striker took a touch and unleashed a shot which went through the legs of the defender and also went past the keeper.

The home team netted the 5th goal in the 89th minute, Ronaldo scored the fifth goal for Real Madrid. It was a good goal, Granada's defense was once again exposed and Ronaldo made the most of it. The player refused to celebrate after scoring for some strange reason, may be he was too frustrated.
It was a comfortable victory for Real Madrid, the only blemish being the cheap goal that the home side conceded. With this win Real Madrid are 6 points clear of Barcelona.
In the postgame interview, Emilio Butragueño said Benzema had a tibia injury but he was pretty optimistic about it as it seemed to be "just" a knock, nothing broken or severely damaged.
