This was a top vs bottom clash which was already won on paper by the home side. There were a few changes made by Mourinho, as expected Marcelo started the game. Sergio Ramos was entirely left out of the squad, he was not even on the bench let alone featuring in the starting line-up. Kaka and Altintop both started the game for Real Madrid. Esteban Granero also started the game. Ricardo Carvalho started the game in defense for Real Madrid.

Lass Diarra who was very poor in the second-leg against Barcelona was left on the bench by Mourinho.

Real Madrid started the match very well, they dominated possession but were very wasteful in the first-half. They easily should have scored at least 4 in the opening half but they failed to do so.

The visitors surprisingly took the lead in the 11th minute when Lafita scored an easy goal. It was shambolic defending by the home team, Pepe was out of position and so was Casillas, it was a quickly taken free-kick by the away team which caught the defense and the keeper napping.

Parity was restored in the 32nd minute when Ricardo Carvalho released Kaka who produced a clinical finish. Kaka's run was perfect and so was the pass.

Karim Benzema, Kaka and Ronaldo wasted some really good opportunities in the opening half. Ronaldo was particular wasteful from free-kicks, the outcome would have been better had Xabi Alonso taken those free-kicks.

Real Madrid had over 70% possession and the game should have been wrapped up in the first-half, the two teams went into the half-time break leveled.

Real Madrid took the lead in the 49th minute when an inch perfect ball by Ozil was tapped in by Ronaldo, this goal was quite similar to the one scored by the away team in the first-half.

Real Madrid went 3-1 up in the 56th minute when Ozil scored a peach of a goal, it was a powerful near post shot which got the better of the keeper.

Xabi Alonso was taken off in the 62nd minute, Lass Diarra replaced the midfielder.

Callejon came on in the 67th minute, he replaced Kaka who had a decent game.

Casillas made a fine save in the 71st minute, it was a powerful shot from Helder Postiga which was well saved by the veteran keeper.

Higuain came on for Benzema in the 72nd minute, the striker had a very poor outing.

The home team won the game 3-1, they now have a lead of 8 points over Barcelona who play against Villarreal later tonight.
