Real Madrid defeated city rivals Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the last La Liga game, Christiano Ronaldo who had just returned from an injury for that game picked up a hamstring injury again.
The player may miss the first leg against Tottenham on 4 April, In addition to this he is also expected to miss the game against Sporting Gijon which will be played on April 3.
"After a medical control and scan at the Sanitas hospital, Cristiano Ronaldo is suffering from a first-grade lesion to the hamstring in his left leg. The player will be out for three weeks," Real Madrid's official website had earlier reported.
The player looks certain to miss international games against Chile and Finland, Ronaldo will be a huge miss should he sit out in the match against Tottenham.
Tim Sherwood and Les Ferdinand watched the game against Atletico Madrid, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp could not make it to Spain to watch the game so he decided to send his assistants instead. They had a very different take on Ronaldo's injury. "He didn't look like he had a hamstring problem to me," Sherwood exclaimed. "It looked like he had two friendly games for Portugal which he might want to get out of."
"The player who stuck out like a sore thumb [against Atlético] was Ronaldo," Sherwood said. "He is obviously a special talent. You talk about world-class players ... I think it's unfair to put Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in that category because they are out of this world and the rest are world-class."
He also spoke about the Real Madrid defenders "We never came away from there as quivering wrecks and needing a lie down," he said. "We think there is a real chance that we can impose ourselves on that Real Madrid side.
"The two centre-backs Pepe and [Ricardo] Carvalho and the right-back [Sergio] Ramos get very, very tight and they can get rolled. It's just about getting our best players on the ball in the right areas. If we can do that, then we think we can cause them a few problems.
"We don't want to go out with a whimper. We know we have to be cautious but we cannot be over-cautious. If we continue to take punches all night, we are going to get knocked out. We were really positive coming away from there ... but how can you legislate for Ronaldo dribbling past five players and sticking one in the top corner?"
It would be really interesting to see if Ronaldo plays against Tottenham or not, the player has a record of recovering from injuries much earlier than expected, hope the same happens this time around too.
