In all honesty, I'd not touch it either, but you never know what can happen after all. On to the match then!
Coentrao played in CR's position in *that* loss against Levante, and he was atrocious (in my opinion). He's ended up playing as in every conceivable position - central midfield, both flanks and left back, but done precious little to justify his 30 million tag.
Callejon is a work in progress, but seems to go M.I.A. in every other match he's played.
I came across an interesting comment in the Q&A you've mentioned- playing Benzema as an inside forward of sorts (which would also keep Higuain upfront while he's in the kind of form he is in now) might be an interesting experiment. Both of them seem to be scoring goals at will, so why not milk their form for what it's worth?
I've also wondered why Ozil has been pushed to the flank when Kaka's played with him. I'd rather keep Ozil in a central position, and make the most of his primary attributes - distribution and vision, and push Kaka out wide, so that he can use his speed and dribbling as a more traditional winger.
All this is just endless conjecture of course, but it never hurt anyone :)
I agree Gaëlle, I've got my fingers crossed too! On a different note, I'm a little worried about playing Ronaldo in pretty much every single match. I know his levels of fitness are unbelievable, and that he probably isn't the kind of player who'd take an occasional benching too well, but we can't possibly burn him out by the time we reach the final lap of the season. In any case, in Mourinho I trust.
Anda, this is fast turning into a rhetoric and not a discussion. Lets keep the boundaries clear, shall we?
As for your point about the buildup:
1. Khedira had no role whatsoever.
2. Ronaldo, on the other hand, was involved in the buildup
3.Kaka received the first pass from Ozil, and played a one-two with Ronaldo, so he was involved as well.
A quote from the El Mundo: "One can only kneel and drool after watching the sublime seven touch team effort that Cristiano, Kaka, Ozil and Benzema pulled off in a few seconds."
Some Marca bytes too: "All the team's forwards participated in the marvel -Cristiano, Kaka, Ozil and Benzema- and they all lived up to their reputations. Ronaldo scored a suave and elegant goal."
As for the inevitable repartee, have a look at this link: http://realmadridinfo.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/ronaldo-goal.jpg
Lets cut to the chase: to put it very simply, wouldn't it be better for Madrid as a team if Kaka continues to put in performances like this? When fit, he brings in a sense of directness in his dribbling and attacking movement (which have tangible end results, as we saw in the Ajax match), while Ozil brings in tempo control and incredible vision. Neither can be belittled, can they?
I'm afraid I've got to disagree with your assessment Anda. Ozil hasn't been quite as incisive this season as he was last time round. No doubt his pass released Benz to finish off that first goal, but Kaka was involved in its buildup too, and Ozil actually faded away after that (with some uncharacteristically inaccurate passing too, to boot).
Ramos was quite the beast as well, wasn't he?
That gem of a first goal did start off from some fancy defensive work by him after all.
"One only hopes he can put in a Nesta like performance against Messi." Fingers crossed!
I couldn't agree more with you about there being a lot of good players to choose from in the Madrid squad! I do hope that Mourinho rotates the side a bit more than the last season - the likes of Ronaldo don't need to play every single match, lest we risk burning them out when we need them the most.
Callejon needs time, to be absolutely honest. His appearances so far have been ineffectual to the point of being invisible - then again, the team's not exactly in a purple patch either right now.
Thanks Gaëlle!
I wanted to take some more time with a similar analysis of Real Madrid, but it's been tricky - we started off incredibly well, and then our performance levels have dropped drastically. Lets see how our next couple of matches pan out.
Well, I've admired Carvalho ever since Porto did the unthinkable in 2004, but time has caught up with him IMHO.
It's unfortunate that even Varane (being the debutante that he was) was more of a calming influence on the defense than Ricky.
