James Rodriguez return brings good news to Madrid

James Rodriguez's return to first team training brought some rare good news to Real Madrid after a rocky few months.

The Colombian joined up with his team-mates on the Valdebebas training pitch for the first time in six weeks as Carlo Ancelotti held his first session of the week without the players who have left for international duty.

The 23-year-old suffered a foot injury early in the 2-1 victory over Sevilla in February and Madrid have won four, lost four and drawn one in the period since that. The first match he missed was the 4-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid.

Ancelotti has been short of options in his attack, showcased in the options he had from the bench in the weekend loss against Barcelona, and Rodriguez will provide a much-needed boost for a confidence-sapped Madrid squad.

He could be fit enough to play a part in Madrid's next match, a home clash against struggling Granada on Sunday, April 5. Isco is suspended for the match and it could give Ancelotti the ideal opportunity to bring his summer addition back into the fold.
