Carlo Ancelotti did little to dispel the rumours of David de Gea signing for Real Madrid when he appeared on Spanish radio on Thursday night.

The Italian was interviewed on Es Radio’s Tiempo Extra show and although he was not asked directly about the Manchester United and Spain goalkeeper, he did talk about Iker Casillas and his future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ancelotti said he did not think Casillas will leave at the end of the season.  “I’m sure that he will stay at Madrid until the end of his playing career,” he said. “He’s a veteran player and he knows the importance of treating the fans how they should be treated.”

The Madrid coach was asked if Casillas would always be first choice, to which he replied: “I don’t think so, if a better goalkeeper comes along, then probably not.” When asked if Madrid may sign a better goalkeeper, he said that “it’s possible”.

Ancelotti was further drilled on the subject at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Liga match against Malaga on Saturday night but he said that he had not spoke to anyone about signing a new goalkeeper.

“I have three very good goalkeepers who I am happy with,” he said. “The best goalkeepers in the world are the ones I have in my squad. I’ve never spoken about signing another goalkeeper.”

Ancelotti may have little say over whether De Gea arrives at Madrid, however, with president Florentino Perez calling the shots over which Galacticos arrive at the club.
