Cristiano sets new personal record with Pichichi and Golden Boot in goal fest

Real ended the season on a positive note and just 2 points shy of Barcelona with a 7-3 goal fest against neighbors Getafe. Cristiano Ronaldo scored another hat-trick against Getafe to put out of reach any chances Messi might have of outscoring him this year in Liga play. 48 goals is Cristiano’s personal best and just shy of the record of 50 goals. Messi fell short of Cristiano yet again this year with only 43 goals. Aside from Cristiano, Chicharito, James, Jese and Marcelo all got on the board to put 7 past Getafe’s goalkeeper. We also finally got to see Odegaard take the pitch for the first team, for the first time. The starting XI included Jese and Chicharito joining Ronaldo up front in attack. Kroos, Illarramendi and James formed the midfield, with Casillas in goal and Arbeloa, Pepe, Nacho and Marcelo in the back. Cristiano scored the opener in the 13th minute on a cross from Marcelo. Getafe countered when Sergio Escudero scored a missile from outside the area in the 23rd minute. 3 minutes later Getafe scored a second on another long-range effort from Diego Castro, who curled a shot past Casillas. Cristiano tied up the match on a free kick on the 33rd minute and Real went ahead 2 minutes later through a penalty on Chicharito, transformed by Cristiano. Getafe tied up the match once again when Real failed to clear a corner and Lacen put a shot into the back of the net. In the second half it was all Real Madrid. Two minutes in Cristiano hit the bar and Chicharito was there to finish it off, going up 4-3. Four minutes later James extended the lead with a perfect curiling free kick. On the 25 minute mark Jese added another after a nice give-and-go from James. Finally, Marcelo scored on a cross from Jese to finish off the match at 7-3. The victory was little condolence for a season with no major trophies. The crowd cheered with support when Ancelotti’s name was announced but was still divided with Iker Casillas. It may be the last match for both in the white shirt. There are also rumors about Cristiano being unsettled after his comments about not speaking until the end of the season a couple months back. Although he did tweet support for Ancelotti to continue with him next year, somewhat putting to rest that rumor.
