Madrid make contract with Mustafi

Real Madrid have made contact with Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to the player's father. Los Blancos have been linked with Nicolas Otamendi as a possible replacement for Sergio Ramos should he leave the Bernabeu but another Valencia defender has also caught the eye of those high up at Madrid. The 23-year-old German was a regular feature alongside Otamendi in Nuno Esparto Santo's defence as Valencia secured a place back in the Champions League with a fourth-placed finish. And Mustafa's father, Kujtim, confirmed Madrid made contact last season. "It's true; there has been contact via telephone regarding this matter," he said. "Some of these calls took place last season. Madrid is a great club and I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t be proud of my son signing for this club." He also told Gazeta Express that Barcelona also showed interest in his son, saying last week: "They are in talks with the club and I don’t know more. This is all I can say at this stage." The player himself told German radio station Sport1 that was flattered by the interest of Madrid. “At the moment I‘m on holiday, but who wouldn’t be happy that Madrid express an interest for you," he said in quotes translated by AS. This is a result of hard work." Mustafi only arrived at the Mestalla last summer from Sampdoria and he has a contract until 2019 with a €50 million release clause.
