Carvajal and Marcelo close to signing new Madrid deals

Real Madrid are close to securing full-backs Dani Carvajal and Marcelo to new long-term deals. Madrid have offered Carvajal a deal until 2020 and Marcelo a new contract until 2021, according to AS, and both renewals could be confirmed in the coming days. The Brazilian's previous contract ran until 2018 and Carvajal's until 2019 but Madrid see them as the future of the club's defence alongside Raphael Varane and David de Gea. The news will only act to further frustrate Sergio Ramos, who has two years left to run on his contract and has asked for a renewal to better match his value to the team. With no new offer forthcoming, the centre-back has asked for a move to Manchester United. Marcelo became Madrid's undisputed starter at left-back last season after competing with Fabio Coentrao but Carvajal will face stiff competition on the other flank from new signing Danilo.
