Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has poured cold water on speculation linking the Premier League club with a move for Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

The Madrid striker has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium throughout the summer but the Gunners boss says there is no truth to the reports.

When asked about the rumours after Arsenal’s 1-0 Community Shield victory over Chelsea on Sunday, Wenger replied: “No, honestly, no.”

Some reports had suggested Arsenal were prepared to break their transfer record to sign the striker but those rumours should  now be put firmly to bed.

  1. This is what I hate about Wenger, he can be frustrating in the transfer market, he needs to be more assertive in order to send a message out there, we need a striker, sign Benzema NOW! or be damned come the middle of the season when players get injured and we don’t have enough cover in some positions. Fact is why let him go to a rival club?, that is counter productive and will bite him hard on the arse in the coming season, no time for bean counting Arsene, get stuck in and not act like a virgin on prom night.
