The honeymoon period is over for Solari

Real Madrid return to LaLiga action this weekend with the honeymoon period over for new permanent head coach Santiago Solari.

Solari has overseen four straight wins since succeeding Julen Lopetegui as Blancos boss and his reward was a permanent deal following the 2-4 victory at Celta Vigo last time out.

With that contract secured and the domestic football action returning following the break for international matches, the pressure is now on the Argentine in a different manner.

With the future now secure for the head coach and the players, the task is now to move Madrid up the LaLiga ladder ahead of the Christmas break and make fans forget about the horrendous start to the current campaign.

A trip to the Basque country to face Eibar should provide the perfect return to league action for Madrid, while a home Copa del Rey clash against lowly Melilla, Champions League match against CSKA and home league matches against Valencia and Rayo Vallecano respectively should not worry Solari and company. A trip to Roma next week in the Champions League will be the toughest test before the Club World Cup.

The trip to Abu Dhabi for the aforementioned competition will give Solari the chance to win his first silverware as head coach and could act as the perfect tonic going into the New Year. It could shape the whole season.

The honeymoon period is over for Solari and the hard work starts now.
