Real Madrid acted quickly to put the 0-2 home defeat against Real Sociedad to the back of people’s minds by announcing the signing of hot prospect Brahim Díaz from Manchester City.

The dust had barely settled on a crushing defeat for Santiago Solari’s men when Los Blancos announced a six-year deal for the Spanish attacking midfielder, who had decided to leave Premier League City with his contract coming to an end.

It’s believed Madrid needed to pay around €15m to secure the youngster but Florentino Pérez did not baulk as Los Blancos continue their transfer policy of buying Spain’s best young players, despite calls to bring in tried and tested superstars to halt the team’s faltering form.

The 19-year-old was presented at the Santiago Bernabéu on Monday and said at his unveiling: “This is the happiest day of my life, I couldn’t have a better gift for Three Kings Day. I had three options after deciding to leave Manchester City. One, play at Real Madrid, two, play at Real Madrid and three, play at Real Madrid. It was impossible to go anywhere else.

“I understand the responsibility of playing with this shirt. I will give everything from the first day.”

The attacking midfielder has been handed the No.21 shirt and will be part of Solari’s first-team squad.

Madrid face Leganés in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night at the Bernabéu and Díaz could be thrown straight into the squad, especially given Gareth Bale’s recent injury setback.
