FIFA virus strikes as Clásico looms

Real Madrid will be left sweating over the fitness of Luka Modric ahead of the first Clásico of the season. The midfielder failed to finish Croatia's Euro 2020 qualifying match against Wales on Monday night as the 'FIFA virus' struck less than a fortnight ahead of what's set to be a crucial LaLiga clash against Barcelona at the Camp Nou. Los Blancos released a medical report on Tuesday night, which read: "Following the tests carried out today on our player Luka Modric by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with a contusion to his right quadriceps. His recovery will continue to be assessed." Modric is set to miss Saturday's trip to Mallorca and will be a major doubt for the Champions League clash at Galatasaray and the Clásico. The injury setback adds to a growing list of injury problems Madrid have endured already this season. Toni Kroos is nursing his way back to fitness and Gareth Bale also suffered a knock playing for Wales against Croatia but did manage to finish the 90 minutes.
