Real Madrid cruised into the Copa del Rey quarter-finals thanks to an emphatic 0-4 victory at Segunda Division side Real Zaragoza on Wednesday night.
Goals from Raphael Varane, Lucas Vázquez, Vinicius Jr. and Karim Benzema saw Los Blancos progress to the last eight on what was a comfortable night for Zinadine Zidane’s men.
The Frenchman made plenty of changes to his starting eleven with Saturday’s big Liga clash with Atlético Madrid in mind, including bringing Alphonse Areola in for Thibaut Courtois, while choosing a three-pronged attack of Vinicius, Luka Jovic and Vázquez.
Zaragoza also made changes of their own and that showed early on as Madrid wasted no time in breaking the deadlock with Varane scoring his third goal since the turn of the year four minutes in.
Vázquez doubled Madrid’s lead before the break with a fine finish from a Toni Kroos assist before goals from Vinicius and Benzema sealed the emphatic win late on.
Los Blancos will now wait to learn their quarter-final opponents when the draw is made on Friday.
